Las Vegas contractors disciplined

The Nevada State Contractors Board said Thursday it took disciplinary action against four Las Vegas contractors for violating the state's building laws.
Brexxel Construction Co.'s license was revoked after the board found the contractor failed to pay for materials and service, cooperate in an investigation and respond to the board's written request.
Southwest Colored Rock Inc. was charged with abandoning or failing to complete a construction project and failing to prosecute a contract with reasonable diligence. The board ordered the contractor to pay a $5,000 fine and the board's legal expenses.
"The project was called Opportunity Village and the only items that weren't completed were change order items, and Opportunity Village didn't approve the change orders anyway," responded Robert Ford, Southwest's owner.
He said he had filed an appeal with the board against the $5,000 fine because he felt he had fulfilled the project's requirements.
EDS Plumbing was ordered to pay the board's costs of investigation and was issued a one-year letter of reprimand after it was charged with bidding or contracting in excess of its license limits and failing to include the license number and monetary limit on the bid.
Haydon Building Corp. was charged with failing to pay for materials and services. The board ordered the contractor to pay its outstanding expenses and the board's costs of investigation. Haydon was also issued a one-year letter of reprimand.
Except for Ford, officials at the contracting companies could not be reached for comment.
