Rebels get commitment from junior golfer

Ryan Moore, a senior at Cascade Christian High School in Washington state, gave a verbal commitment to UNLV golf coach Dwaine Knight on Tuesday night.

The 17-year-old native of Puyallup, Wash., considered Oklahoma State, TCU, Arizona before deciding he wanted to play for the Rebels next fall.

"There are so many things that made me want to go to UNLV," Moore gushed. "It's just an awesome program.

"I love being around coach Knight. He is such a great person and I liked assistant coach Andy Bischel. I'd love to be a part of what they do. I love being around the team."

Moore took an official visit to UNLV the second weekend in September.

He already knew Rebel freshmen Brandon Askew, Travis Whisman and James Oh from the junior golf circuit and said the visit helped him to get to know the other players on the team.

Moore, ranked 17th in the world in the Golfweek/Sagrin junior golf rankings, was a finalist at the U.S. Junior Amateur this summer and Washington junior golf state champion. In 1999, he won an American Junior Golf Association tournament in Boise, Idaho and was the medalist at the Polo Golf Jr. Classic.

"My ultimate goal is to turn pro and with the people they have to work with at UNLV, I think this is the best place for me," Moore said. "Coach Knight just seems like he knows so much and could be such a help to me."
