North Las Vegas briefs for October 5, 2000

Civil rights help necessary

The city of North Las Vegas has hired the law firm of Schreck Morris for periodic civil rights consultation and litigation assignments.

Additional law firms are utilized by the city to address conflicts of interest, which frequently arise when civil rights claims are made against multiple defendants employed by the city, according to staff reports.

Attorney Todd Bice of Schreck Morris will bill the city $200 per hour, his normal rate for services.

City Attorney Sean McGowan was a partner of the firm Schreck Morris before being hired by the city in December.

Brooks Tot Lot renovations made

CG&B Enterprises Inc. has completed the city's Brooks Tot Lot renovations, and children will now be welcomed by new play equipment, drinking fountains and trees at the park.

The city authorized the contract for $122,141, of which $102,498 was spent.

The city also accepted final completion of the Windsor Park wall demolition project, undertaken by Tiberti Co.

The company spent $28,770 to demolish and remove 400 feet of 6-foot block wall, along with a 6-foot chain link fence. The wall was replaced with a new 8-foot chain link fence.

The wall needed to be replaced because highly expansive soils had caused it to move and it was in danger of collapsing.
