UNLV's football team could appear on television as many as eight times this season thanks in part to a new five-year contract the school has signed with ESPN Regional Television.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Pete Derzis, senior vice president of ESPN Regional Television, said a deal could be worked out as early as today to televise UNLV's Sept. 9 season-opener at Iowa State. The 11 a.m. game would be televised locally by KFBT Gold 33, which has entered into a two-year deal to air a select package of UNLV football and basketball games.
Meanwhile, all 12 Rebel football games will be heard live on ESPN 920-AM. Larry Kahn, formerly an announcer of USC football and California Angels baseball games, will be joined by longtime Rebel announcer Tony Cordasco on the broadcasts.
UNLV also announced that play-by-play man Ken Korach and analyst Glen Gondrezik will return for their ninth season of calling Rebel basketball games which will also be heard on ESPN 920. And Bob Blum will return for his 13th season as producer and play-by-play announcer for UNLV's women's basketball team. All Lady Rebel games will appear live on SportsRadio 1460-AM.
