Longtime executive Boman dies

George M. Boman, a native Nevadan who long operated Clark County Wholesale and served as president of several civic organizations including what is now the local United Way, died July 20 in Las Vegas. He was 80.

Boman, a Las Vegas resident of 59 years, was an executive at Clark County Wholesale from 1948 to 1989, retiring from that company as a partner and general manager.

Boman was the father of prominent Las Vegas cardiologist and civic leader Dr. Keith Boman, who helped found the Las Vegas Performing Arts Foundation and the Meadows School in Summerlin.

George Boman's wife of 59 years, the former Jeane Bradbury, founded the Las Vegas Executives Association.

Born March 27, 1920, in Lovelock, Boman was raised in Fallon and Reno, where he worked for the First National Bank. At age 21, he was transferred to Las Vegas, where he worked for a while as a teller.

Boman served in the Navy from 1944-46 before returning to Las Vegas, where he became a junior partner at Clark County Wholesale.

Boman was president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce in the late 1940s and Greater Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce in the early 1970s.

In 1960, he served as president of the United Fund of Clark County, which today is the United Way.

Among his other civic duties, Boman was a member of the Scottish Rite and a past president of the Las Vegas Rotary Club. A 33rd degree Mason, Boman was a past potentate of the Zelzah Shrine Temple and a trustee of the Los Angeles Shriners Children's Hospital.

He also was active with the Boulder Dam Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America in the 1960s and '70s.

In addition to his wife and son, Boman is survived by another son, Brad Boman of Las Vegas; a brother, William Boman of Fallon; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services were Monday at Palm Mortuary Downtown.

The family says donations can be made in Boman's memory to the Shriners Children's Hospital, 3160 Geneva St., Los Angeles, CA 90020, or the Meadows School, 8601 Meadows Lane, Las Vegas, NV 89128.
