Las Vegas area fishing report

* LAKE MEAD: Striped bass fishing continues to improve and anglers are reaping the benefits with a number of fish in the three- to four-pound class being caught.

Some of the better action has been found at Gypsum Wash where stripers are chasing their favorite forage fish, threadfin shad. The area around Hemenway Harbor has been equally productive with the better results being found around 5 a.m.

Sporadic success for stripers has been reported at Pumphouse Cove, Las Vegas Wash, the jetty at Lake Mead Marina and to the north of Saddle Cove. Anglers fishing in the Overton Arm are still finding stripers around Fish Island.

* LAKE MOHAVE: Boaters fishing above Cottonwood Cove have been catching stripers that weigh up to three pounds by trolling with anchovies. The better success has been found from Arizona Bay to Owl's Point.

* EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR: With water temperatures cooling, trout fishing is showing signs of improvement. Now is the time to fish for brown trout because the fish are feeding in preparation for their fall spawning.

* ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR: Anglers are having fair success for rainbow trout around sunrise and sunset. Casting flies has been the most productive method for catching the fish. Fishing is slow for largemouth bass and crappie.

* WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA: Largemouth bass fishing continues to be fair with the better success still taking place at Adams-McGill Reservoir. Rainbow trout fishing is improving from the dams at Cold Springs and Haymeadow reservoirs.
