Opportunity Village is holding its seventh annual "Miss Kitty's Jeans to Jewels" Western extravaganza, hosted by Kitty Rodman, 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the JW Ranch.

The event features live country entertainment, a silent auction, barbecue, equestrian events featuring the championship UNLV rodeo team and more. Proceeds benefit Opportunity Village. Call 259-3741.

Recreation department planning leagues

The Clark County Parks and Recreation Department is organizing its first Lasertag league.

Lasertag is a fast-paced game played in a smoke filled arena with barriers and obstacles to protect players from being hit by their opponent's laser.

Registration is limited to eight teams of five people each per division. Two age divisions are offered: 15 and under and 16 and above. Cost is $40 for six three-hour sessions.

The season begins Monday and continues through Oct. 20. Games are held on Tuesdays at Orr Community Center, 1520 E. Katie Ave., 455-7196; on Mondays at Von Tobel Community Center, 3610 E. Carey Ave., 455-7966, and on Wednesdays at Guinn Community Center, 6480 Fairbanks Road, 455-8393. Call the location nearest you for details.

Wellspring will hold registration Saturday

Wellspring Bible Institute will hold registration at 10 a.m. Saturday for the new school year that begins Monday.

Programs are available for men and women who desire to seriously study the Bible. Classes are offered in both English and Spanish. For more details and a free brochure, call 647-5479.

Numerous nature hikes are scheduled

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area offers free hikes and walks, but reservations are required. Call 363-1921.

Sandstone Pool: Ecology of a Tinaja: A 2 1/2 mile moderately strenuous hike Monday to learn about the fascinating natural history of a desert ephemeral pool.

Nature Provides: How Ancient People Used Plants and Animals: Two-mile moderate hike Wednesday past Indian rock shelters, agave roasting pits and petroglyphs. Some rock scrambling required. Bring water and a snack.

Hunters of the Sky: Three-mile moderate hike into Pine Creek Canyon Thursday to learn about the raptors of Red Rock and their unique adaptations -- talons, beaks, wings, and eyesight that play an important role in their survival.

Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month

In observance of "National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month," a workshop, "Voices of Recovery," will be offered 4-7 p.m. Friday at Community Counseling Center, 1120 Almond Tree Lane. Call 369-8700.

Tax preparation course

Liberty Tax Service is holding a free income tax preparation course beginning Monday. The Liberty Tax School will be held two days or nights a week for 10 weeks. Students will learn the basic principles of income tax preparation. Call (800) 790-3863.

Singles dance

Funtimers, a singles group, is hosting a rock 'n' roll dance 8-midnight Friday at the Showboat hotel-casino, second floor Natchez Room. This is a nonprofit social club for singles. Call 387-3887.

Insurance lecture
