Jacqueline Longstaff filed suit against Stewart Enterprises Inc., which operates Desert Memorial Cremation & Burial, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North. The suit also names Robert Fay III, a son of the man Longstaff says is her deceased husband.
According to the suit, Longstaff said a death certificate signed by a Desert Memorial representative indicated that Robert Fay Jr. was divorced at the time of his death on March 14, 1997. Longstaff said she married Fay on June 30, 1985.
The suit says Desert Memorial refused to correct the death certificate and the error could put Longstaff's U.S. Air Force and Social Security survivor benefits in jeopardy.
A representative of Desert Memorial and Fay's son could not be reached for comment.
