HMO participants to get service

Patients who are members of the PacifiCare Health Systems Inc. health maintenance organization will receive a new service designed to cut hospital costs.
The Southern Nevada Health Care Delivery System has signed a contract with Cogent Healthcare Inc. for hospitalist service for its 29,000 commercial members and 23,000 Medicare members.
The Southern Nevada Health Care Delivery System is a partnership of Oasis Health System, Physician's IPA and PHYCOR/North American Medical Management. It operates the PacifiCare HMO health care component.
Laguna Hills, Calif.-based Cogent Healthcare, which recently changed its name from Hospitalists Inc., offers 24-hour physician and nurse care at nine area hospitals used by PacifiCare.
Physicians and nurses who work exclusively at hospitals carry out responsibilities for primary care physicians.
