Trump slams Wynn’s casinos

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- Casino mogul Donald Trump says disappointing financial results revealed by Mirage Resorts Inc. show Mirage and his rival Steve Wynn are in trouble.

Trump, whose company operates several Atlantic City casinos, is fighting government assistance for Wynn's plan to enter the Atlantic City market with an upscale megaresort.

Mirage last week said earnings for the current quarter won't meet analyst estimates, but said it remains committed to the Atlantic City project. Analysts say Mirage -- consistently the most-respected gaming company -- will have no trouble financing planned expansion in Las Vegas and Atlantic City.

The Mirage results "stink," Trump said in a story in today's Press of Atlantic City newspaper. Trump said Wynn's newest casinos "look like funeral parlors or mausoleums."

"I don't know, if based on their recent financials, they'll be able to do much of a job in Atlantic City, but I hope they will be able to come ... but on an equitable basis," Trump told the Press of Atlantic City.
