Washoe video stores focus of anti-violence grou

People Against Violent Entertainment-Media will ask video stores to place R-rated movies and videos with violence depicted on covers out of view of children.

Recognition of video-store cooperation could include awards, banners and mentions in school newsletters, group founder Jody Ruggiero said.

Ruggiero launched the group after the deadly Columbine High School shootings in April.

The group has been endorsed by the Sierra Council of the PTA, which represents parent-teacher associations of 45 Washoe County schools.

Ruggiero plans to ask the county school board to endorse a non-partisan appeal to the entertainment industry to curb violence in the media directed at children.
