Teen faces charges in death of her baby

Second-degree murder and child abuse charges have been filed against a Henderson teenager who is alleged to have given birth to a baby who was later found dead.
Marie Adams, 18, was booked into the Henderson Detention Center Wednesday but released a short time later on $25,000 bail that had been agreed to by prosecutors and defense attorney Chip Siegel before her surrender.
A March 17 arraignment hearing has been set in Justice of the Peace Rodney Burr's courtroom.
The incident unfolded after Adams went to St. Rose Dominican Hospital on Feb. 9 because of bleeding and told medical personnel she had just given birth.
The 8-pound baby's body was found in Adams' home by the defendant's mother, who according to authorities had been unaware of the pregnancy.
Although the teenager told police she had a miscarriage, an autopsy indicated the baby had been alive at birth and the Clark County District Attorney's Office filed charges.
The second-degree murder charge does not allege a premeditated killing, but only the pursuit of a course of conduct that would tend to lead to death.
