Developer Mowbray dies at 45

Southern Nevada real estate broker and developer Romy Mowbray, the son of the late Nevada Supreme Court Chief Justice John C. Mowbray, died Monday from complications of pneumonia.

Romy Mowbray, a native of Henderson and a graduate of Bishop Gorman High School and the University of Notre Dame, was the owner of Romy Hammes Mowbray & Co., which had built custom home and condominium developments.

His brother, Las Vegas attorney John H. Mowbray, said his name came from his grandfather, Romy Hammes, an early Las Vegas developer who donated land for Gorman high school and was instrumental in its founding.

Romy Mowbray also is survived by his mother, Kathlyn Hammes Mowbray; two brothers, Terry Mowbray of Las Vegas, and Jerry Mowbray of Reno; three nephews and a niece.

Justice Mowbray died in March 1997.

A rosary will be said today at 7 p.m. and a funeral Mass is set for Friday at 10 a.m. Both will be at the Guardian Angel Cathedral.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the donor's favorite charity or Bishop Gorman High School, 1801 Maryland Parkway, or to the John C. Mowbray memorial scholarship fund for Nevada students attending Notre Dame, in care of the Notre Dame Club of Las Vegas, P.O. Box 16010, Las Vegas, 89101.
