Eleven artists open at the Arts Factory

Santa Fe artist James Jereb will display his "Gateway to the Stars" visionary installation artworks through May 31. Jereb will attend the May 1 exhibit debut, displaying his paintings and murals of the "Masters of the Stars" and "Stargates" from various indigenous cultures. Jereb melds elements from North African and New Mexican cultures in his interiors, exteriors, landscapes and painitngs.

The nonprofit Contemporary Arts Collective will be showing "Subversive Souvenirs," a collection of sculpture and ceramic artworks by UNLV staff and students, on display through May 31.

Site Las Vegas, a new gallery at the Arts Factory, will display "Chance" through May 30, an installation project by Las Vegan Mark Masuoka of two- and three-dimensional works that embrace the elements of risk-taking through the process of art-making.

David S. Curtis Studio, another new studio at the Arts Factory, combines art and architecture to display study models for "Falling."

George L. Sturman Fine Arts will display artwork of Marilyn Monroe, as well as small sculptures and drawings by Moore, Lachaise, De Suvero, Nakian and Ciuti, through May 31.

The Smallworks Gallery will show New Yorker Susan Leopold's sculpture, photograph and paintings through June 13 along with the contemporary floral drawings and paintings of UNLV instructor Mary Warner.

Four Corners Framing will present "Poinssons d'Encre Ciclee," Mark Andrews' digital images of tropical fish from the reefs of La Jolla. Cricket Graphics Design, Illustration and Fine Art Studio will present "Alchemy Fine Art Watercolors" by Dar Freeland. Critical Eye will display black-and-white photography, and Studio West Photography will show sculptures by Jean-Pierre Tugnon. Andrews, Freeland and Tugnon are local artists.

The Arts Factory Common Area is showing "A Breadth of Light" through May 8, featuring photography works from Mark Olson's Photography I, II and III classes at Las Vegas Academy.

Much of the artwork displayed at the Arts Factory is available for purchase at the individual galleries and studios. Regular hours are noon-4 p.m. Tuesday and Friday-Sunday and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. There is no charge to view the exhibits.
