Discipline for drunken cop planned

An administrative investigation surrounding a Metro Police officer has found that an officer was in fact drunk at work, officials said.

A breathalizer test showed that Officer Beverly Wagner had a blood alcohol level of .10 percent when she arrived at work on April 21, Internal Affairs Bureau Lt. Larry Spinosa said Wednesday. The legal limit for drivers in Nevada is .10.

The investigation found that Wagner violated Metro's "alcohol on duty" procedure.

Wagner, 37, was given the breathalizer alcohol test after she arrived at work in uniform for briefing and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.

The findings of the investigation were forwarded Tuesday to Undersheriff Richard Winget, who signed off on the findings on behalf of the administration, Spinosa said.

The case has been forwarded to Wagner's division "to determine the level of discipline," Spinosa said.

Capt. Frank Barker, who oversees the downtown substation where Wagner, a nine-year veteran on the force, is assigned said that "her discipline is pending."

Sources, however, said that Wagner was being transferred from the downtown Problem Solving Unit to the patrol unit.

"Discipline will be given to her in the next couple of days," Barker said. "We like to do it soon (after) so the person who committed the infraction can be reminded of what they did."

Barker said Wagner is still on the job pending the disciplinary action.
