Company official says AG off base in suing him

"When the attorney general hears our side, I am sure she will find everything legal and proper," Meyer said, referring to the lawsuit by Del Papa that accuses his National Affordable Housing Coalition with deceptive advertising and trade practices.

Meyer added that his Reno-based company, started in October 1996, has been challenged in other states and has survived.

Del Papa sued in Washoe County District Court, naming the company, Meyer and his wife, Linda, the company's chief financial officer, Scott Krieger, and several others.

The lawsuit says the coalition charged fees up to $500 to show people how they could buy homes even with poor credit and low incomes.

Del Papa said the $500 fee included admission to a workshop where people got bogus information on financing, credit counseling, home warranties and affiliations with government housing programs.

The attorney general said up to 20,000 people paid the fees, but no more than 900 were able to buy homes - mostly without the help of the coalition.
