Rapist’s attacks stop, but police warn against false sense of security

Since an onslaught of publicity about a serial rapist in the Las Vegas Valley, the assaults have stopped.

The last attack Metro Police attributed to the serial rapist was March 23, Metro Police sexual assault detail Sgt. Clint Robison said.

Lt. Craig Klatt, who heads the sexual assault detail, said people should not assume the attacks have ended.

"I'd hate like hell to give anybody a false sense of security," Klatt said.

He said that with "the media blitz" investigators were hoping somebody would name a suspect.

"That hasn't happened," he said.

The first attack was in December 1996 in southeast Las Vegas. The March 23 attack was in the northwest.

Klatt emphasized that the attacker has been armed with different weapons. Two women were pistol whipped, while another was threatened with a knife.

"We advise people to lock their doors and make their house look like they're awake to fend him off," Klatt said. "If they hear somebody getting into their house, the first thing they need to do is scream and pick up the phone and dial 911."
