Letter: Don’t interfere with unions and their dues
Saturday, April 25, 1998 | 3:59 a.m.
I can understand why a Republican union member wouldn't want his dues going to support Democratic candidates, but what I can't understand is why any union member, or any worker for that matter, could be a Republican in the first place, given the Republican anti-labor agenda.
How about NRA members who don't want their dues going to support Republicans, and I am sure there are many who don't support the extreme stance of the NRA leaders?
My opinion on this is that you give your dues to an organization to do what it sees fit with them and to promote what is good for its members as a whole; supporting union- and worker-friendly politicians and policies fits this criterion.
If and when, if ever, a Republican should support labor policies that are in the interests of workers, he will receive his share of union support.
