Letter: Animal Foundation didn’t deserve any extra funding
Saturday, April 25, 1998 | 3:59 a.m.
City Hall's decision to pay an extra $15,000 per month to Animal Foundation International is incredible. Why reward a failing company by giving it even more money than it contracted for?
Not only has AFI failed to collect $150,000 in fees due to shoddy bookkeeping and raised only about 3 percent of the amount needed to build the new shelter they agreed to, but its original bid to operate the city shelter is significantly higher than Dewey Animal Care's bid.
This scam should be investigated further. Let's see the financial statements and the salary expenses. Couldn't a lot of these positions be staffed by volunteers who love animals and would be willing to donate their extra time?
This scam makes as much sense as city management awarding $100,000 in annual bonuses to employees who admit that there is no logic to the awards.
