Senior lawmaker announces re-election bid

Jacobsen, R-Minden, was first elected to the Assembly in 1963. He moved to the Senate in 1983, where he has served ever since.
The veteran lawmaker said the 1999 legislative session will be important because of reapportionment.
"Clark County now holds over two-thirds of the state's population and it will take strong leadership to maintain a strong voice for northern Nevada," he said.
Jacobsen's district includes Douglas County and portions of Carson City, and Washoe and Lyon counties.
Jacobsen underwent heart bypass surgery in January, 18 months after doctors removed a benign tumor from his abdomen.
But the 76-year-old lawmaker said he is fully recovered and in good health.
