Quake occurs near Hawthorne

A wall around a Hawthorne High School door frame cracked as a 4.4 magnitude earthquake struck the northern Nevada town about 9:17 a.m. today, the Seismology Laboratory at the University of Nevada, Reno reported.
The quake occurred in the Garfield Hills, about 15 miles east and southeast of Hawthorne and was felt as far away as Carson City.
Nevada is the third most active state for earthquakes, trailing only California and Alaska.
