Letter: State senator went extra mile to help

This past week, he postponed a family vacation to work with a compassionate group of Las Vegans who dropped their own affairs to assist Harry and Lillian Hopkins in saving their home from foreclosure.

Schneider heralded a triumphant, last-minute move to raise enough money to pay off an unexpected demand for past-due assessments owed to the Hopkins' homeowners association at Desert Fairways West. What was originally a debt for slightly more than $300 turned sevenfold into a demand for more than $2,100 the day prior to the public auction of the Hopkins' $200,000 dream home.

If not for Schneider's extraordinary dedication to the welfare of even the most obscure Las Vegas residents, Harry and Lillian Hopkins might today be facing an eviction because of the heavy-handed bludgeoning from the directors of their homeowners association.

Schneider -- along with many kind-hearted people throughout the valley -- saved two senior citizens from being thrown out on the street during a time of serious illness.

Today, there are many Las Vegans who truly are heroes.
