Commission reinstates El Cortez employee gaming cards

At the commission's board meeting Thursday, the gaming cards for Frederick Balmer, Ernest Owens, Kenneth Beecroft and Winston Chua were reinstated, a spokeswoman for the gaming commission said today.

Originally, 29 El Cortez employees were charged with buying stolen property. It wasn't known how many were actually prosecuted and convicted.

A fifth hearing for Robert Turas was continued to a later meeting, a the spokeswomann said.

After their arrests, the work cards were revoked by the gaming commission.

The undercover probe was initiated in January 1997, Lt. Tom Lozich with the property crimes section said earlier.
