Obituaries for April 23, 1998

Erma Linda Antrim, 77, of Searchlight died Wednesday in Boulder City. She was born Jan. 22, 1921, in Iowa. A resident for more than 30 years, she was a postmaster.

She is survived by her husband, Harold; one son, Jim Antrim of California; and one sister, Josie Elliot of Searchlight.

A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Searchlight Community Church. Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

FRANCES J. BENDER

Frances J. Bender, 87, of Boulder City died Tuesday in a local hospice. She was born March 14, 1911, in Grand Forks, N.D. A resident for 25 years, she was a retired clerk for an office supply manufacturer.

She is survived by one daughter, Roberta F. Larsen of Las Vegas; two sisters, Lucy Blanchard of Boulder City and Victoria Jakanoski of Glasgow, Mont.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Rosary will be 6 p.m. today in St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Boulder City. Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday in St. Andrew's. Interment will follow in Palm Mausoleum, Boulder City. Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

ARTHUR LEE BRIGHT

Arthur Lee Bright, 58, of Henderson died Sunday in Henderson. He was born Feb. 15, 1940, in Los Angeles. A resident for eight years, he was a retired mechanic and driver of medical equipment.

He is survived by two daughters, Christy Lee Conroy of California and Rebecca Slipich of Las Vegas; his mother, Florence E. Bright, and one sister, Carolyn Goodman, both of Wenatchee, Wash.; and four grandchildren.

Visitation was to continue until 5 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave.

VIOLET M. CHANDLER

Violet M. Chandler, 102, of North Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospice. She was born March 30, 1896, in Lawrence, Mass. A resident for 52 years, she was a retired grocery store owner in Omaha, Neb., and a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Allen Chandler of Las Vegas and Wes Chandler of Pahrump; two sisters, Evelyn Smith and Rita Shier, both of San Diego; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd.

ROBERT H. ERICKSON

Robert H. Erickson, 70, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born May 12, 1927, in Muskegon, Mich. A resident for 20 years, he was a retired Coast Guard officer and Korean War veteran, a member of American Power Boat Association, International Model Boat Association, North American Model Boat Association and Challengers Model Boat Club.

He is survived by his wife, Sumie.

Affordable Cremation and Burial Service, 2457 N. Decatur Blvd., is handling arrangements.

KENNETH E. FAST

Kenneth E. Fast, 56, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospice. He was born Dec. 20, 1941, in Nebraska. A resident for 23 years, he was a supermarket meat cutter and a Marine Corp veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Brigitte; two daughters, Carla and Angie; two brothers, Leroy Fast and Byron Fast; one sister, Judy Smith; and 15 grandchildren.

Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

DOROTHY EVELYN FOSTER

Dorothy Evelyn Foster, 78, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. She was born Oct. 28, 1919, in Colorado. A resident for three years, she was a retail grocery clerk.

She is survived by her husband, William W.; two daughters, Toni Carney of California and Sharon Vela of Las Vegas; one son, Bruce Foster of Oregon; one sister, Ellen Shumway of Alaska; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling private arrangements.

DAVON ANTWAN JOHNSON

Davon Antwan Johnson, died April 12, his date of birth, in Las Vegas.

He is survived by his mother, Latosha Johnson, and one sister, Deishne Johnson, both of Las Vegas.

Graveside services were scheduled at 11 a.m. today in Woodlawn Cemetery. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, handled arrangements.

ESTHER LEE JONES

Esther Lee Jones, 95, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospice. She was born March 30, 1903, in Estelle, Miss. A resident for three years, she was a retired newspaper custodian for 20 years.

She is survived by one son, Joseph Lee Jones of Las Vegas; and five grandchildren.

ELAINE LAATZ

Elaine Laatz, 73, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. She was born April 2, 1925, in Niagara Falls, N.Y. A resident for 25 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Richard Laatz of Aurora, Colo., and Gary Laatz of Las Vegas; one sister, Victoria Christopher of Sacramento; and four grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. services Friday in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens.

SUSIE MAYER

Susie Mayer, 53, of Las Vegas died April 9 in a local hospital. She was born Oct. 12, 1944, in Washington, D.C. A resident for 40 years, she was a PBX operator for an answering service and a member of Ladies Auxiliary Post 10047.

She is survived by her husband, Jack; one son, Earl Atchley of Las Vegas; one daughter, Cheryl Ann Stokes of Washington; and two grandchildren.

Services were scheduled at 10 a.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St.

ELLEN CHRISTINE ROTH

Ellen Christine Roth, 48, of Henderson died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born Feb. 12, 1950, in Chicago. A resident for 11 years, she was a bookkeeper at Lake Mead Resorts.

She is survived by one brother, Michael McGinley of Hoffman Estates, Ill.; one sister, Mary McMillen of New Orleans; and close friend, Jerry Young.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Friday in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave.

SUE C. SKARDA

Sue C. Skarda, 61, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospice. She was born Feb. 26, 1937, in Indianapolis. A resident for 27 years, she was a retired civil service health and benefits adviser.

She is survived by two daughters, Kathie Miller and Kellie Greves, both of Las Vegas; one brother, H. John Mattia Jr. of Channelview, Texas; and four grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 2-7 p.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be noon Saturday in Palm Chapel, Eastern.

ALFONSE TOMBRELLO

Alfonse Tombrello, 87, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. A resident for many years, he was born March 24, 1911, in Las Vegas.

He is survived by one niece, Angie Allison of Texas.

NELLIE STARR WISEMAN

Nellie Starr Wiseman, 83, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. She was born Nov. 14, 1914, in Heber City, Utah. A resident for 44 years, she was a retired sales manager for Sears, past president of the Grandmothers Club, Literary Club and Daughters of Utah-Prairie Sunset Camp and the 1993 Clark County Grandmother of the Year.

She is survived by one son, Robert Glenn Wiseman of Las Vegas; two sisters, Naomi Lnenicka of Ephrata, Wash., and Mary Greer of Sandy, Utah; and one grandchild.

Visitation is scheduled 5-8 p.m. Friday in Davis Funeral Home, 2127 W. Charleston Blvd. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the LDS Las Vegas Sixth Ward, 3400 W. Charleston Blvd. Burial will be in Bountiful City Cemetery, Bountiful, Utah.
