LV mayor to head London trip

Gov. Bob Miller isn't the only one going overseas to promote the attributes of Las Vegas.

Las Vegas Mayor Jan Laverty Jones is being featured in a Prestige Travel American Express ad in local newspapers promoting a trip to England.

The advertisement states that Jones is hosting the trip to London to visit the Lord Mayor to promote friendship and goodwill between the cities.

The tour is scheduled to leave Las Vegas on Aug. 25 on the Concorde and return on a trans-Atlantic ship. In addition to meeting the Lord Mayor, participants will have the opportunity to visit Buckingham Palace and tour the Chunnel Tunnel, which runs between London and Paris

Jones trip is being paid for by Prestige, according to Jones' spokeswoman Cathy Hanson, which is permissible under Nevada disclosure law as reasonable travel and hosting expenses.

One purpose of Jones' trip is to discuss with the Lord Mayor the best way to market a city as a tourist destination, Hanson said.
