Grand jury indicts 13 people on drug charges

Thirteen people, who police say offered to sell them drugs as the undercover officers walked or drove along a section of Stewart Avenue known for its drug dealing, have been indicted by a Clark County Grand Jury.

Deputy District Attorney Valerie Adair said the officers were flagged down or quickly approached as they traveled along a section of the road between East 10th Street and Maryland Parkway during a three-day period early this month.

Adair said all the offers involved crack cocaine that the dealers generally kept hidden in their mouths.

Named in the indictments were Salvador Hernandez, Glenn Norris, Roberto Hernandez, Mary Ann Gonzalez, Marcos Chavarria, Juan Garcia, Christopher Paige, William Arellano, Arturo Puente, Luis Chavez, Samuel Chavez, Ronald Diggs and Danette Penn.

All were arrested on drug distribution charges shortly after the alleged incidents between April 6-8 and have been sitting in jail awaiting court hearings, the prosecutor said. The indictment replaces the need for preliminary hearings to determine if there is sufficient evidence to hold the defendants for trial.

The 13 are scheduled to appear later this month for arraignment in District Court.
