Gaming Commission approves Cashell’s license

"It looks like you have done it again. Congratulations," Gaming Commission Chairman Bill Curran told Cashell after the panel approved his license.

Cashell credited his management team and the staff at the Ormsby House for "putting the property on the positive side financially."

"The last 10 years have been a real hell at the Ormsby House," he said.

Cashell, a veteran casino executive and a former Nevada lieutenant governor, was recommended for a license earlier this month by the Gaming Control Board.

He said then that many improvements have been made to the property, and it should generate enough revenue for more improvements.

Cashell expects revenues during the tourist-heavy summer season to be strong enough to return some of the $750,000 advanced to him by Cerberus Partners to keep the club going. Cerberus is the New York-based lender that recently took title to the club.
