Suspect arrested in assaults on girls

A suspect has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to kidnap a girl at gunpoint and exposing himself to a second girl at knifepoint on Tuesday, Henderson Police said.

Steven Thomas Houlihan, 25, was charged with two counts of attempted kidnapping and one count of open and gross lewdness.

About 9:30 a.m., officers were called to Burkholder Junior High School about a man approaching one of the students as she walked to school, police said.

Officers learned that a man in a tan four-door sedan pulled up next to the girl at Basic Road near Pacific Avenue and, at gunpoint, ordered her into his car. She ran away to the school, where she reported it to school officials, police said.

A short time later, another call was made to police reporting that a man approached a second girl on Harris street near Basic Road. The car description was the same. This time, however, the man got out of his car and with a knife in hand, exposed himself to the girl, police said.

The girl ran away to Valley View Recreation Center and reported it.

About 11:30 a.m., officers scoured the area and located Houlihan, who fit the descriptions given to detectives by the two girls, police said. He was stopped on Basic Road near Nebraska street and taken into custody.
