Man leads police to body of his mother

A man who police said told them he "set his mother free and delivered her to God" on Tuesday led North Las Vegas Police to her body on Mount Charleston.

Marilyn Davis, 54, was stabbed several times, Lt. Mike Blackwell said. An autopsy, scheduled for today, will determine the exact cause of death, he said.

Davis was discovered missing about 10 p.m. Monday after concerned co-workers from the Hotel San Remo went to her mobile home and found her gone. They had not seen her since she left work on April 13, Blackwell said.

Her friends notified North Las Vegas Police. When officers arrived, they entered Davis' home and found her purse and blood in her apartment, police said.

About midnight, officers were called to an unrelated call at a house in the 3400 block of East Carey Avenue near Pecos Road about a suspicious man, Lt. Mike Blackwell said.

"It turned out to be Davis' son," he said.

Her son, Dario Rodriguez, appeared to be under the influence of drugs so officers took him to a hospital and held him on suspicion of trespassing and being under the influence of a controlled substance, Blackwell said.

"Dario was speaking to unknown persons who were not present," he said.

On Tuesday, Rodriguez began giving details to police about his mother's death, Blackwell said. At 4 p.m., he led them to the base of Mount Charleston near Kyle Canyon and Harris Springs Road. Davis' body was on the side of the road "under covers," Blackwell said.

"He just took her out there and placed her under some blankets," he said.

An extended temporary restraining order against her son had recently been obtained in court by Davis, Blackwell said.

Rodriguez was charged with murder and remained in the hospital.

The murder weapon has not been found, Blackwell said.
