Members of the local chapter of the Links began working with the students months before the state study targeted the school as one of 13 "inadequate" schools. Links members volunteered their services on a weekly basis, helping Booker students with their homework, performance skills and self-esteem.
The Links service organization has a membership of more than 10,000 professional women, with 240 chapters in 39 states. The organization has earmarked four areas involvement as its goals: international and national trends, the arts and services to youth.
