Getchell to hire 180 workers in coming months

Most of the workers, to be hired over the next seven or eight months, will be miners or maintenance personnel, general manager Wade Bristol said.

Getchell began extracting ore from its new Turquoise Ridge operation last month, but commercial production is expected to begin in August.

With the new project, Getchell has a reserve of 6.2 million ounces.

The company also expects its production costs to lower from $375 an ounce to $260 an ounce by the end of the year, Bristol added.

Bristol credited part of the mine's turnaround from December on capital raised by the sale of 3 million shares of common stock.

The funds generated are being used to further develop Turquoise Ridge, increase mill capacity and continue exploration efforts.
