Sgt. Daniel Kevin Kelly, 47, was charged with DUI, failing to use due care and having an open container following the accident Friday night.
He was booked into the Churchill County Jail and released on his own recognizance.
The accident occurred on Macari Lane about 11 miles east of Fallon, the sheriff's office said.
NHP Trooper Tony Almaraz said Kelly was wearing a seat belt and was only slightly injured. He refused treatment.
A criminal investigation is being handled by the Nevada Highway Patrol.
The sheriff's office is also conducting an internal affairs investigation.
