The state Legislature is the culprit that orders the county assessor to raise taxes, which requires Harry Hopkins to pay his taxes on his $200,000 home and his association dues.
What would the county do to you if you didn't pay your taxes? Remember, the association board members are elected by their home or condo owners.
In respect to El Paseo, we immediately address any suggestions or complaints that come up in a democratic way. Individually, we on the board are homeowners; collectively, we are the board of directors which has a responsibility to all homeowners and the common grounds.
Community associations are like the Legislature and the police department. We don't necessarily love them, but we need them.
I would like to hear from others who are happy with their associations.
