Henderson Parks and Recreation will sponsor a jet-ski safety workshop 9 a.m.-noon May 2 at Kesterson Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris Street. Participation is $10 for those 16 and older, which includes all required course materials.
The three-hour workshop is approved by the U.S. Coast Guard and will be taught by a certified instructor. It will focus on the latest information related to boating safety, the legal responsibilities of boaters and federal regulations governing pleasure craft.
Seating will be limited, and preregistration is recommended; call 565-2121.
Henderson Parks and Recreation and the American Association of Retired Persons will co-sponsor a 55Alive workshop from noon to 4 p.m. May 6 and 7 at Silver Springs Recreation Center, 1951 Silver Springs Parkway. The two-part, eight-hour workshop is open to those 50 and older. Registration is $8,payable to AARP at class rime.
55 Alive emphasizes how participants can employ driving skills that compensate for any age-related physical changes. Participants who successfully complete the class may qualify for auto insurance premium reductions. AARP recommends participants check directly with their insurance agent.
The 55 Alive workshop will help drivers gain more confidence behind the wheel by improving awareness of traffic hazards and identifying and correcting poor driving habits. New motor-vehicle technology and updated traffic laws will also be discussed.
