The city's proposed 1998-99 budget calls for the hiring of 30 firefighters for a new station in northwest Reno, and of 16 recreation employees to supervise children during breaks at new year-round schools.
Plans also call for the hiring of two new animal control workers and five police technicians.
Some of the new employees will be supported by a nickel property tax increase, which will cost the owner of a $150,000 house $26.25 a year.
The firefighters will be supported by a fire tax increase approved in 1996.
