Ice Dogs 6, Thunder 3

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Patrick Augusta and Darryl Williams each scored twice to lead the Long Beach Ice Dogs to a 6-3 win over the Las Vegas Thunder on Friday night at the Long Beach Arena.

The win gives the Ice Dogs a 1-0 edge in their best-of-five Western Conference quarterfinal series. Long Beach was 12-0-2 against Las Vegas in the regular season.

Both of Augusta's goals came in the first period, during the Ice Dogs' game-opening four-goal run. Andrei Vasilyev also scored in the first. Kevin Todd assisted on two of the first-period goals, and capped the win with a power-play goal at 10:53 of the third.

Russ Romaniuk led the way for Las Vegas with a goal and two assists, which came on goals by Jeff Christian and Trent McCleary.

Las Vegas was held to 20 shots, 17 of them stopped by goalie Kay Whitmore. Manny Legace faced 41 shots and made 36 saves for Las Vegas.

Game 2 will be played in Long Beach at 4 p.m. Sunday.
