Editorial: Fast track starts to develop parks

But there is hope this will change soon for Clark County. The SUN's Jeff Schweers reported Thursday that the county has created a new land acquisitions division to fast-track the development of parks and other public facilities. County commissioners have been dissatisfied that the county currently has a surplus of $54 million in park development funds that have gone unspent. General Services Director Earl Hawkes said that all the employees working on land acquisition, park design and facilities planning will now be working together.

And as the Urban Land Institute reminds us, parks are especially important in Las Vegas because its year-round climate permits outdoor recreation throughout much of the year. Local government initiatives that provide faster development of parks will improve our quality of life.
