Washoe County Manager McIntyre stepping down

"It's slash-and-cut time and we need a slasher and a cutter," Commissioner Mike Mouliot said. "We are running into hard times and we are going to need a confrontational style."

The Reno Gazette-Journal reported on Friday that MacIntyre is negotiating terms of his departure with the commission. Joanne Bond, who chairs the panel, said details probably would be dettled next week.

MacIntyre is eligible for regular retirement from the $125,000-a-year job on Oct. 17 when he turns 60.

Commissioners are scrambling to make financial ends meet in the face of a projected shortfall in state-collected sales tax. Department heads were told to reduce spending requests by 7.5 percent and $20 million was cut from the proposed $300 million budget.
