Obituaries for April 17, 1998

Alan Gene Abersfeld, 51, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born June 15, 1946, in Minnesota. A resident for many years, he owned a lounge.

He is survived by one son, Scott Abersfeld of Minnesota.

Visitation is scheduled 1 p.m. until a 3 p.m. service Saturday in Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson. Burial will be private.

CARL H. BAKER

Carl H. Baker, 71, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. An optometrist and an Army veteran, he was born May 11, 1926, in Ohio.

He is survived by one son, Clark Baker; four daughters, Charlotte Baker, Claudia Stewart, Carollyn Ram and Cynthia Mock; one brother, John Baker; one sister, Mary Pollock; and 10 grandchildren.

No local services are scheduled. Burial will be in Ohio. New Horizon Funeral Home, 2610 E. Lake Mead Blvd., North Las Vegas, is handling arrangements.

FRANCISCA BENNET

Francisca Bennet, 78, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospital. She was born Nov. 28, 1919, in Philadelphia. A resident for six years, she was a retired insurance company clerk and a volunteer for Desert Springs Hospital.

She is survived by her husband, Vernon; two daughters, Sita Motilall of Nanuet, N.Y., and Elyse Navarro of New York City; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St., is handling arrangements.

ELDORA J. CASTRO

Eldora J. Castro, 84, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born March 23, 1914, in Fall City, Neb. A resident for nine years, she was a retired nurse's aide.

She is survived by one daughter, Dorthey Dee Morgan of Las Vegas; one sister, Ruth Tannahill; four grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson.

LORRAINE CUSTINO

Lorraine Custino, 66, of Henderson died Tuesday in Henderson. She was born Oct. 29, 1931, in Hawaii. A resident for many years, she was a hotel executive secretary.

She is survived by two daughters, Lani Arellano of Henderson and Vicki Custino of Hawaii; two sons, Lawrence Rodrigues and John Rodrigues, and two sisters, Rachel Rodrigues and Nina Ropozo, all of Hawaii; and eight grandchildren.

Burial will be in Hawaii. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

JOHN TJ HOWARD

John TJ Howard, 66, of Las Vegas died Thursday in a local hospital. He was born Jan. 28, 1932, in Brooklyn, N.Y. A resident for 22 years, he was a police officer and a Korean War Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Marlene; one daughter, Raine Kriutzfield, and one son, Jon Howard, both of Las Vegas; his mother, Margaret Howard, and one brother, Robert Howard, both of Henderson; and six grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m until 4:30 p.m. services Sunday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

AGNES MARY KOHEL

Agnes Mary Kohel, 75, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local health care center. She was born April 22, 1922, in Venice, Ill. A resident for 25 years, she was a retired Caesars Palace payroll clerk of 25 years.

She is survived by two sisters, Catherine Powers and Ernestine Pendleton, both of Las Vegas.

Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Palm Chapel, Eastern. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

The family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society, 1325 E. Harmon Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89119.

JOSEPH WALTER LENGAS

Joseph Walter Lengas, 41, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born Feb. 11, 1957, in Nevada. A lifelong resident, he was an automotive laborer.

He is survived by one son, Shane Lengas of Utah; his father, James Joseph Lengas; and one brother, Mike Lengas of Las Vegas.

M.C. LEWALLEN

M.C. Lewallen, 70, of Las Vegas and Beaumont, Calif., died Tuesday in Beaumont. He was born Nov. 9, 1927, in Alicia, Ark. A resident at Lake Mead for 21 years, he was a retired carpenter, co-owner of Golden Gate Drywall in San Francisco and W.J. Thompson Drywall in Las Vegas, a World War II Army veteran, a member of the Carpenters Union in San Francisco and Banning-Beaumont Elks Lodge 1839.

He is survived by his companion, Delores Willis of Beaumont; one son, Michael C. Lewallen of Portland, Ore.; one daughter, Beverly L. Hagardern of Foster City, Calif.; three brothers, Gene Lewallen of Stanfield, Ariz., Shelby Lewallen of Overton and A.J. Lewallen of Las Vegas; four sisters, Virginia Etheredge of Winkleman, Ariz., and Ethyl Bollinger, Glenna Brumbach and Leola Foster, all of Las Vegas; and four grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to 10 a.m. services Sunday in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

MARY R. MORLANG

Mary R. Morlang, 81, of Boulder City died Wednesday in Boulder City. She was born Aug. 25, 1916, in Waterloo, N.Y. A resident for 11 years, she was a retired seamstress for a garment manufacturer and a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church's altar society.

She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Carlyle of Boulder City and Betty Rocha of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; one brother, Anthony Guido of Auburn, N.Y.; four sisters, Margaret Meckley of Phoenix, Josephine Brand of Seneca Falls, N.Y., and Kathryn McGill and Rosemary DeMetro, both of Waterloo; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be 6 p.m. today and 9 a.m. Saturday in St. Andrew's. Burial will be in Boulder City Cemetery. Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

OSAMU OZAWA

Osamu Ozawa, 72, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born Nov. 25, 1925, in Kobe, Japan. A resident for 30 years, he was a retired owner-operator of Shoto-Kan Karate School of Las Vegas, an eighth-degree black belt and grand master of the Traditional Karate International.

He is survived by his wife, Magaly; two sons, Toru Ozawa of Kobe and Douglas Ozawa; and two brothers, Jun Sugano and Mitsuru Ozawa, both of Kobe.

Visitation is scheduled 5 p.m. today until 10 a.m. Saturday at the family residence, 6832 Greengrove Drive. Services will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Palm Chapel, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Additional visitation is scheduled 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday in Palm Mortuary, Eastern.

The family suggests donations to the Traditional Karate International.

ALLEN PHILLIPS

Allen Phillips, 63, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born Aug. 30, 1934, in Wisconsin. A resident for many years, he was an automobile mechanic and an Air Force veteran.

He is survived by one brother, Daniel Prey, and one sister, Dorene Shuda, both of Wisconsin.

DONALD ELLSWORTH ROBINSON

Donald Ellsworth Robinson, 75, of Las Vegas died April 10 in Las Vegas. He was born Aug. 5, 1922, in Akron, Ohio. A resident for 25 years, he was a hotel front-desk clerk at the Holiday Inn, Nevada Hotel and El Rancho.

Services and burial will be private. American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane, is handling arrangements.

LIBBERT SUMMER

Libbert Summer, 82, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 26, 1916, in New York. A resident for 26 years, he was a tool and die company owner and an Army veteran.

He is survived by one brother, Mendel Summer of California.

A private burial will be in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

DALE WENDELL TURNER

Dale Wendell Turner, 80, of Henderson died Wednesday in Henderson. He was born Jan. 5, 1918, in Norwood, Miss. A resident for 53 years, he was a construction equipment operator, a member of Operating Engineers Union Local 12 and the FCA.

He is survived by one son, Kenneth D. Turner of Las Vegas; one brother, Gene K. Turner of Joplin, Mo.; one sister, Dee West of Redlands, Calif.; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to 2 p.m. services Saturday in Highland Hills Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Paradise Memorial Gardens. Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.

RUSSELL VALE

Russell Vale, 42, of Jean died Sunday in Jean. He was born June 3, 1955, in Arcata, Calif. A resident for 16 years, he was a hotel-casino maintenance chief.

He is survived by his wife, Natalie; three daughters, Russina May of Aurora, Colo., and Jennifer Vale and Heather Vale, both of Jean; his mother, Dorothy Vale of Pioneer Town, Calif.; two sisters, Shirley Brown of Riverside, Calif., and Barbara Burnette of Pioneer Town; and one grandchild.

ALLISON WENDELBOE

Allison Wendelboe, 88, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. She was born July 22, 1909, in Logan, Utah. A resident for 59 years, she was a retired owner of Vegas Village and a member of the Kiwanis Club.

She is survived by two daughters, Beth Wade of Logandale and Shirley Davis of Livermore, Calif.; two sons, Charles Wendelboe of Las Vegas and Mark Wendelboe of Provo, Utah; 28 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation is scheduled 6-8 p.m. Sunday in Davis Funeral Home, 2127 W. Charleston Blvd. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Davis Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens.

KAY LLOYD YOUNG

Kay Lloyd Young, 66, of Las Vegas died Thursday in Las Vegas. He was born Oct. 24, 1931, in Utah. A resident for 10 years, he was a self-employed contractor.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; two sons, Kay L. Young II and Kasey E. Young, both of Las Vegas; and two grandchildren.
