Job fair set as part of program to energize urban area

The third annual Southern Nevada Enterprise Community Job Fair is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Westland Vons supermarket parking lot at the corner of Owens Avenue and "H" Street.

Hundreds of residents in the at-risk area that make up the enterprise community will have a chance to meet prospective employers, polish up their resumes and interviewing skills and learn about career training programs.

The event is hosted by Clark County Commission Chairwoman Yvonne Atkinson Gates, Las Vegas Mayor Jan Laverty Jones and North Las Vegas Mayor Mike Montandon.

Informational booths from a variety of business and career and employment organizations will be at the free public event.

Now in its fourth year, the SNEC was one of 105 distrissed urban communities authorized by President Clinton in 1994 and provided with federal funds to use for education and job training programs, child care assistance, community policing and business development activities.

The SNEC covers nine U.S. Census tracts in West Las Vegas and North Las Vegas that comprise the valley's urban core.
