14 arrested for driving to DUI meetings with revoked licenses

"I hope this gets the message out that you need to make sure you don't drive to one of these meetings with a revoked license," said Reno Police Lt. Jim Ballard.

The 14 were arrested when they arrived Thursday night to attend a session of a Victim Impact Panel, where they were to listen to people talk about the tragedy of losing loved ones to drunken drivers.

"It makes me mad all over again," said Judy Jacobini, whose daughter was killed by a drunken driver eight years ago Saturday.

"It shows they don't have a lot of personal responsibility."

The driver's license of a person convicted of driving under the influence is revoked for 90 days for a first offense, one year for a second conviction and three years for a third conviction.

The sentence for driving with a revoked license is a minimum of 30 days in jail and a fine of $500 to a maximum of six months and $1,000. House arrest is an option.
