Brandy B. Shoumake, 26, was sentenced Tuesday in District Court after a prosecutor said she ignored repeated attempts to get her to pay the support.
"We gave her every break we could," said Deputy District Attorney Trina Dahlin. "We had absolutely no cooperation on her part. She never let us know where she lived or where she worked."
The payments were supposed to start in 1991, when Shoumake's child was two years ago. She now owes $7,305.
The lone $100 payment was made last November, a month after Shoumake pleaded guilty to felony failure to pay child support. Sentencing was deferred on the condition she make monthly payments and hold a job. Had she done that, the felony could have been reduced to a gross misdemeanor.
