Middle-school teacher charged with molestation

A middle-school teacher who Clark County School District Police say molested a boy in a copy room at William Orr Middle School now faces three felony charges, according to a criminal complaint filed Tuesday in Justice Court.

Charges against Ronald Keen, a reading teacher, were amended to include an additional count, the criminal complaint filed by the District Attorney's office said.

The 38-year-old teacher, who has since resigned, now faces two felony counts of lewdness with a minor under 14 and one felony count of annoying a minor under 14.

School police began investigating the case at the middle school at 1562 E. Katie Ave. in January after a student came forward, police said.

Two middle-school boys, 12 and 13, have been identified as victims, according to the criminal complaint.

Keen was arrested Feb. 13 and booked into the Clark County Detention Center after he turned himself in, school police said. He was released the same day on his own recognizance, a jail spokesman said. He was arraigned in Justice Court on Feb. 18.

A lesser plea offering was made to Keen Tuesday but rejected by him, a spokeswoman for the District Attorney's office said.

At Tuesday's hearing, Keen said he had no comment on the case. Prosecutors and Keen's attorney, public defender Kevin Williams, also declined to discuss the case.

A preliminary hearing, originally scheduled for Tuesday, was continued until June 23.
