Liberace Museum celebrates 19th anniversary

The museum was opened by Liberace on April 15, 1979, and quickly became one of the city's top attractions.

The museum features costumes, pianos, cars, antiques and jewelry of the famous pianist, who became one of the city's leading entertainers and most popular residents. He died in 1987.

The museum is the funding arm of The Liberace Foundation for the Performing and Creative Arts. The foundation has funded more than $3.5 million in scholarship grants for the arts. It currently benefits 41 colleges and universities nationwide.

The museum's anniversary was marked by free admission to all seniors 60 years of age and older.
