Woman hits $2 million jackpot

Mary Jayne Summers, 75, of Las Vegas, said she was just looking to get out of the house for a couple of hours when she went to the Four Queens hotel-casino to play slot machines.

A short time later, she was $2,197,871 richer when she hit the statewide Quartermania progressive jackpot just after 4 p.m. Monday. Earlier in the day, she told a friend that she felt she was due for a big win.

Summers, who turns 76 on Wednesday, is the second person in as many weeks to hit a major IGT progressive jackpot. Thursday, Edna Marie Kennedy, 62, of San Antonio, hit an $839,306 jackpot on a Five Deck Frenzy quarter machine at the Las Vegas Club hotel-casino.

The biggest IGT jackpot continues to climb to record numbers. Megabucks statewide dollar slots recently went above the $15 million mark.

Summers told IGT officials that she went to play the machines just to get out of the house for the afternoon. She became the 230th person to hit Quartermania's big jackpot.

The record for quarter slot machines is $2.9 million hit in 1993 at the Flamingo Hilton-Laughlin.

Summers said she plans to use her winnings on her crafts projects and to rent her own booths at crafts shows.
