Ground broken on new power plant
Tuesday, April 14, 1998 | 10:18 a.m.
El Dorado Energy is building the plant about 15 miles southwest of the city in the Eldorado Valley.
The 475-megawatt plant stirred controversy last summer among city residents who went to court to reverse the City Council's unanimous approval of the project.
The plant will spread across 138 acres of undeveloped Mojave Desert.
Officials from project partners Houston Industries Power Generation and Enova Energy Management of San Diego were also on hand Tuesday.
