Routine traffic stop nets drug chache

Monday, April 13, 1998 | 4:19 a.m.

A car driven by Francisco Aguirre, 30, was pulled over about six miles east of Battle Mountain for a mechanical violation. A records check indicated Aguirre had a suspended drivers license.

A check of the vehicle turned up a hidden compartment near the gas tank and drug-sniffing dog Sadie zeroed in on the compartment, which contained about seven pounds of meth.

Aguirre was being held in the Lander County jail in lieu of $200,000 bail on charges of transporting, possession and possession for sales of a controlled substance.

The patrol said the arrest was made Thursday afternoon, but details were not released until Monday while an investigation continued.
