Rare twin calves born
Monday, April 13, 1998 | 4:22 a.m.
Twin calves are a rarity, but at least two ranchers in Mountain City, just south of the Idaho border in extreme northern Elko County, are taking the anomaly in stride.
"I've never before been able to say I had a 100 percent calf crop, but I can say it this year," Dennis Bieroth told the Elko Daily Free Press.
"We've had such good luck this calving season, I don't have enough cows that have lost calves to graft on the extras."
Margie Vipham said her Mountain City ranch also is long on twins and short on nursemaids.
"It began to happen in 1994, but we had only one set in 1997 and only one this year. Two years ago, we had seven sets. We had to buy another milk cow so we could feed the extra babies."
