Possible homicide victim found in Carson City
Monday, April 13, 1998 | 8:32 a.m.
Carson City sheriff's Sgt. Fred Schoenfeldt said members of the sheriff's posse found the body of an unidentified man Saturday in Goni Canyon.
He said evidence at the scene led investigators to believe it was a homicide, but he declined to elaborate.
Chief Deputy Bill Callahan said investigators believe the victim could be a man reported missing Feb. 2. His name was withheld pending completion of an autopsy Monday.
Callahan said investigators think the victim's body was dumped at the site after he was murdered elsewhere. It's unknown how long his body had been there.
"We're moving forward as if it is a homicide," Callahan said, adding the city's last murder was in January 1997.
