Obituaries for APril 10, 1998

Walter W. Arvizu, 70, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born Jan. 24, 1928, in Bakersfield, Calif. A resident for three years, he was a retired truck driver and a World War II Marine Corps veteran.

He is survived by two daughters, Bunny Burnam of Sacramento and Berna Ferrall of Las Vegas; two sons, Walter A. Arvizu and Ken Arvizu, both of Bakersfield; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were scheduled at 2 p.m. today in Palm Valley View Memorial Park. Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., handled arrangements.

JOSEPH S. BARONAK

Joseph S. Baronak, 66, of Brookside, Utah, died Wednesday in Brookside. He was born Sept. 22, 1931, in Chicago. A former resident of Las Vegas for 34 years, he was retired from the Air Force and a Korean War and Vietnam War veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, and one son, Mark Baronak, both of Las Vegas; two daughters, Barbara Miller of Las Vegas and Ann Johnson of Brookside; and one grandchild.

Visitation is scheduled 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. services Saturday in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave.

LARRY C. CARLE

Larry C. Carle, 70, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born May 8, 1927, in Missouri Valley, Iowa. A resident for 31 years, he was a retired science teacher at Gibson Junior High School 1967-1991, a World War II Navy veteran and a member of Excelsior Masonic Lodge 259.

He is survived by his wife, Betty D.; three sons, Stephen Carle of Omaha, Neb., and Michael Carle and James Carle, both of Las Vegas; and six grandchildren.

Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Graveside services will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

MARION G. FERRELL

Marion G. Ferrell, 82, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. She was born Sept. 23, 1915, in Stockton, Calif. A resident for seven years, she was a department store buyer.

She is survived by one daughter-in-law, Patricia J. Ferrell of Las Vegas; and one grandson, Battell L. Ferrell of North Las Vegas.

ROBERT NELSON FILTER SR.

Robert Nelson Filter Sr., 69, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospital. He was born Dec. 27, 1928, in Milwaukee. A resident for 2 1/2 years, he was a retired truck mechanic.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey; three sons, Robert Filter Jr. of San Bernardino, Calif., William Filter of Milwaukee and Brian Filter of Las Vegas; three daughters, Aneen Filter and Susan Harmon, both of Las Vegas, and Heather Grasso of Gilbert, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave.

MARY ELLEN HALDEMAN

Mary Ellen Haldeman, 72, of Henderson died Wednesday in Henderson. She was born May 23, 1925, in Los Angeles. A resident for five years, she was a retired real estate broker.

She is survived by three sons, Steve Haldeman of Las Vegas, Jay Haldeman of Lake Forest, Calif., and Paul Haldeman of Murietta, Calif.; two daughters, Linda Larsson of Orem, Utah, and Laurie Richardson of Henderson; 23 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

No local services are scheduled. Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

GEORGE JAMES KRENSANEK

George James Krensanek, 42, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. He was born Nov. 10, 1955, in Japan. A resident for 14 years, he was a security officer.

He is survived by his wife, Pamela; three sons, Lance, Joseph and Eric; two daughters, Anna McGwire and Dawn Isbell; his mother, Miya; one brother, Richard Jr.; two sisters, Patty Holskey and Linda Widenhofer; and one grandchild.

JAMES ROGERS MAVERICK

James Rogers Maverick, 55, of Las Vegas died April 4 in Las Vegas. He was born March 5, 1943, in Arkansas. A resident for 30 years, he was a casino dealer and an Air Force veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Lily; one son, Danny Tang, and two brothers, Robert Campbell and David Campbell, all of California.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Sunday in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

PAUL MCIVER

Paul McIver, 75, of North Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born Jan. 8, 1923, in North Carolina. A resident for 43 years, he was a retired security guard for 37 years at the Tropicana hotel-casino and a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by three daughters, Kathy McIver of San Leandro, Calif., Willie Mae McIver of Dallas and Paulette McIver of Las Vegas; one son, William McIver of North Las Vegas; and six grandchildren.

Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Palm Chapel, Main. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Park.

THOMAS N. MOFFETT

Thomas N. Moffett, 59, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. He was born Feb. 13, 1939, in Akron, Ohio. A resident for 37 years, he was a dealer for 26 years at Caesars Palace and a Navy veteran.

He is survived by his companion, Kathy Brese of Las Vegas; two sons, Thomas B. Moffett of Las Vegas and Bob Popejoy of Santa Fe, N.M.; two daughters, Sherri Sweena of Las Vegas and Christy Schumacher of Santa Fe; four stepdaughters, Synthia Castro of Newberry Springs, Calif., Jessica Brese of Laguna Niguel, Calif., and Falena Brese and Leona Lourenco, both of Las Vegas; three sisters, Cheryl Allen of Fontana, Calif., and Marcia Wickliffe and Skippy Campbell, both of Las Vegas; four brothers, Joseph Moffett, Phillip Moffett and Michael Moffett, all of Las Vegas, and Terry Campbell of Salt Lake City; and 16 grandchildren.

Visitation will continue until 9 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Palm Chapel, Jones.

Eric Ewald Nyberg, 76, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born Oct. 3, 1921, in Lead, S.D. A resident for eight years, he was a supervisor at General Dynamics and a World War II Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Beatrice; one son, Paul Syvinski; three daughters, Sandra Walker, Judy Woods and Cindy Stafford; one sister, Margaret Hotvedt; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 2:15 p.m. April 17 in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Neptune Society of Nevada, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, Building 5, is handling arrangements.

MICHAEL DEAN REESE

Michael Dean Reese, 44, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born March 25, 1954, in Rochester, Minn. A resident for seven years, he was a retail manager.

He is survived by his wife, Laura; two sons, Michael Reese and Chris Reese, both of Pueblo, Colo.; his mother, Gladys Reese of Reseda, Calif.; one brother, Gary Reese of Fort Mohave, Ariz.; and one sister, Linda Amato of Riverside, Calif.

Frank J. Reitenbach, 80, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. He was born March 29, 1918, in Akron, Ohio. A resident for 15 years, he was a retired lumber company manager, a World War II and Korean War Army veteran and member and past president of Fallbrook Lions Club, Fallbrook, Calif.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara A.; one son, Robert A. Dunne of Las Vegas; two daughters, Teresa A. Ruegge of Loveland, Colo., and Rebecca L. Sartain of Las Vegas; numerous nieces and nephews; and three grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Harold; three sons, Harold III, Thomas and Henry; four daughters, Victoria, Connie, Rosslyn and Kathy; one brother, Ray Brosterhous; and 10 grandchildren.

Anne Spearman, 73, of Las Vegas died Thursday in a local hospital. She was born Aug. 3, 1924, in Indiana. A resident for nine years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Charles D.; one son, David Scott Spearman of Eugene, Ore.; one daughter, Katy Mitchell of Rogers, Ark.; and two grandchildren.

Joseph Micheal Walker, 47, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. He was born Nov. 7, 1950, in Indiana. A resident for seven years, he was an auto mechanic and a Marine Corps veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; two sons, Joseph Micheal Jr. and Micheal Joseph; three daughters, Marsha Ava Michell Walker, Heather Marie Walker and Veronica Walker; his mother, Vera Carson; five brothers, Albert Mitchell Sr., Leon, Jerry, Richard and Alvern; three sisters, Etta Mitchell, Galyn and Kristine Finks; and four grandchildren.

William Wyatt, 75, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local health care center. He was born Aug. 3, 1922, in New York City. A resident for 28 years, he was a retired baggage handler for 20 years at TWA and a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Agnes; two sons, Stephen Wyatt of Hicksville, N.Y., and William Wyatt of Las Vegas; one daughter, Susan Brohamer of Twentynine Palms, Calif.; two sisters, Harriet Hurley of Jupiter, Fla., and Adelaide Wollman of New York City; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
